Walk & Talk for Hope

Make space for what matters.

Each year, in recognition of World Mental Health Day, we come together to walk, talk, and connect—creating space for the conversations that matter most.

Because our thoughts, feelings, and lived experiences deserve space. Not just one day a year, but every day.

Join us this October—or start wherever you are.
This is about showing up—for yourself and for others.

What Is Walk and Talk for Hope?

Walk and Talk for Hope is an annual event held on or around October 10 in honor of World Mental Health Day. In previous years, this gathering took place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Beginning in 2026, we’ve moved the event to align with this global moment for mental health awareness.

More than a single event, Walk and Talk for Hope is a practice—one you can return to all year long. Whether you join us in person or walk and talk in your own way, it’s a simple, meaningful way to support connection, emotional well-being, and hope.

Invite a friend, bring your family, or gather a group—and make space to walk, talk, and connect.

You can learn more about why this movement matters in our story on walking together.

Why Walking and Talking Supports Mental Health

Walking and talking together offers real benefits for both mental and physical well-being.

Boosts Mood

Walking increases blood flow to the brain and releases endorphins, helping improve mood and reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression while highlighting the strong connection between mental and physical health.

Strengthens Social Connection

Talking while walking, especially outdoors, can lower stress levels, provide emotional release, and strengthen bonds.

Supports Cognitive and Emotional Health

Even short walks can improve focus, boost creativity, and support overall mental well-being. Explore practical tips to care for your mind and discover simple ways to be kinder to your mental health.

Together, these benefits make walking for mental health initiatives accessible and impactful.

These benefits are supported by research from Harvard Health Publishing, Harvard Medical School.

Walk and Talk for Hope and Suicide Prevention

Creating space for open conversations plays a critical role in mental health awareness and suicide prevention. By encouraging people to talk while walking, Walk and Talk for Hope supports the goals of suicide prevention walks by reducing stigma and making it easier to speak honestly about difficult emotions.

These conversations become especially important when navigating grief and loss. For those experiencing the loss of a child or deep grief, breaking the silence can be a meaningful step toward healing and connection.

Walk and Talk for Hope also aligns with broader suicide prevention walk initiatives that center compassion, understanding, and human connection, reinforcing the power of authentic conversations in suicide prevention.

The language we use matters. Choosing thoughtful, respectful words when talking about suicide can reduce harm, challenge stigma, and create safer spaces for honest dialogue.

Why Do People Walk and Talk?

Walking and talking together creates space for reflection, understanding, and shared purpose.

Walking and talking with others, I hope to gain insight and understanding into what we can collectively do to alleviate the mental health burdens that are afflicting so many of today’s youth.
